ACT / SAT Math Review – Homeschool

Course Description

The ACT/SAT Math Review course was originally developed as a comprehensive SAT prep program. To build it, every major SAT math prep publication available at a local bookstore was reviewed. Every math problem from every printed test was transcribed, analyzed, and organized into core categories: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and a general “other” category for uncategorized questions.

Within each category, problems were further grouped by topic—for example, all problems involving fractions, circles, or specific formulas. This allowed recurring test patterns and question styles to emerge. With that insight, new problems were written using similar formats, forming the foundation of the video instruction.

Each video segment includes:

  1. A review of the general topic.

  2. A walkthrough of sample questions modeled in ACT/SAT format.

  3. Dual explanation styles: the standard classroom method and a streamlined “test-smart” approach that emphasizes time-saving techniques and strategies specific to standardized testing.

The full course now includes over 15 hours of instruction and has been refined to reflect recent updates to both the ACT and SAT exams. Feedback from parents consistently reports significant score improvements—often 100 points or more—between a student’s initial SAT attempt and their next one after using this program.

How the Course Works

Several preparation strategies have proven effective for this course. Here’s a recommended approach:

  1. Start with a pretest using any full-length sample test from a prep book to identify strengths and weaknesses. (More on materials below.)

  2. Schedule regular study times: Watch 30–60 minutes of video per session. Some students absorb content by watching, while others prefer taking notes during instruction.

  3. Plan ahead: With over 15 hours of content, start your review 30–60 days before the test date.

  4. Take a second sample test after completing the videos to evaluate progress. This helps pinpoint areas that may need more review and ensures maximum test readiness.
